Tüm standartlara göre bu değer litrede 50 miligramı aşmamak zorundadır. Leach solutions and wastes of Bayer process are important source for these metals. However, earlier studies are concentrated essentially on the recovery of metals from leach solutions in that solid wastes received only very limited attention. In Seydişehir Aluminium plant, there is no galyum production and despite its removal from leach solutions as vanadium cake, it is stored as a waste of no economic return due to its relatively low vanadium, but, high impurity content. Within the framework of this project, research and development of environmentally acceptable, technically sound and low-cost chemical leaching and purification/recovery methods are planned for the recovery of valuable metals as vanadium, gallium and aluminium from the wastes of Bayer process. Vanadium cake and electrofiltration dust with a relatively high content of gallium as waste by-products of Bayer process will be used in this project. Physical and chemical characterisation of these wastes will be initially performed to evaluate effects of waste characteristics on selection and evolution of chemical leaching methods. In this project, the studies will focus on acid and base solvent systems and effects of reducing/oxidising reagents. As an alternative to the available methods as solvent extraction and electrolysis, solution purification and metal/compound recovery methods on the basis of selective precipitation are projected to be investigated within the scope of the project. The project was developed in cooperation with university and industry, and involves laboratory and pilot scale R&amp;D studies to turn these wastes into resource for these metals.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The project “Recovery of Metals from Waste By-products of Bayer Process using by Laboratory and Pilot Scales” (MAG 111M220) supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) is currently underway with the cooperation of Süleyman Demirel University (S.D.Ü) and Karadeniz Technical University (K.T.Ü). It is a 2 years project with a total budget of 186.250 TL. The project team, which is made up of the coordinator (Professor Ata Akçıl), two researchers (Associate Professor Hacı Deveci, Assistant Professor Hasan Çiftçi), an advisor (Dr. Emine Sayilgan) and two scholars (Ayşenur Tuncuk, Demet Okudan), has extensive experience on research and development of hydrometallurgical metal recovery methods and treatment/recycling of wastes. &lt;br&gt;Within the project works; valuable metals will be recovered from waste by-products allowing utilization of wastes as secondary resources. Furthermore, the project will lead to the development of leaching-based basic-alternative metal recovery processes. Thus, the proposed work is important not only for academic studies but also for the development of technology. A patent application is a target of the project. Furthermore, the questions are increasing regarding to disposal procedures for the waste fluorescent lamps. Considering the high level of population, it’s possible to denote that our country is among the countries consuming large amounts of fluorescent lamps. Because these lamps contain mercury, the disposal or recovery operations should be performed in special designed plants according to related regulation. Whereas, preliminary opinions show that waste fluorescent lamps are mostly landfilling or transmitted to uncontrolled disposal sites. Consequently, it can be evidently realized that pollution occurs with our own money, considering the all types of fluorescent lamps are imported from other countries. It’s appeared to have to recover the waste fluorescent lamps according to existing national regulations. Herein, the main purpose of recovery is both on proper removal of hazardous wastes and the reuse of other sources (glass, metal, phosphorous powder, etc.) in an economical aspect.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The main objective of this project is to investigate the removal and recovery of mercury metal from waste fluorescent lamps on lab-scale employed sequenced methods. The project group consists of 1 coordinator (Associate Professor Gökhan CİVELEKOĞLU), 2 researchers (Assistant Professor Mehmet BEYHAN and Assistant Professor İsmail Serkan ÜNCÜ), 1 advisor (Professor Ata Utku AKÇIL) and 3 grantees (PhD student Sezen COŞKUN and MSc students Meryem ÇİRLENGİÇ and Safinur COŞKUNSU), of those have research projects and academical experiments relevant to disposal and recovery of waste materials. It’s a 2.5 year project with a total budget of 233.000 TL. Within the project, all lab-scale experiments including chemical leaching, cementation/precipitation, photocatalysis and electrolysis/electro-winning tests will be conducted. Using all lab data, the maximum leaching and mercury recovery performances will be obtained both on technical and economic basis. Preliminary design criteria for full-scale applications will be determined. In addition, Basic-alternative process flow charts and waste management plans will be generated. &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Within the project works; mercury metal will be removed from the waste fluorescent lamps, final disposal operations will be simplified and the risks related to public health will be minimized. Primacy topics of 21st century include development and using of clean, sustainable, environmental friendly, raw material recovery intended and economically applicable production and consumption technologies. The proposed project contains all these subjects. The findings from this project may be used by private sector. Furthermore the results may lead to planned of full scale application projects on metal and material recovery from waste fluorescent lamps.</description><link>http://w3.sdu.edu.tr/sdu.aspx?dosya=duyuru&amp;dkod=6822</link><guid>6822</guid><category /></item><item><pubDate>Wed, 23 Feb 2011 12:33:04 GMT</pubDate><title>E-Waste R&amp;D Project</title><description>E-Waste R&amp;D Project (TUBITAK 2010-2012): Recovery of Metals from Electronic Wastes Using Physical Separation and Hydrometallurgical Processes&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Especially in recent years, drastic increase in the production and consumption of electrical-electronic equipments (EEE) has posed waste management problems for end-of-life equipments (known as waste of electrical-electronic equipments (WEEE) or e-waste). E-wastes are hazardous in character containing many harmful organic (flame retardants with chlorine/bromine) and inorganic (Pb, Cd, Hg etc.) materials. In landfill areas, prime source of heavy metal pollution is alleged to be WEEE. Notwithstanding its hazardous nature, WEEE contains appreciable quantities of base (e.g. copper) and, particularly, precious metals (gold, silver and palladium), which makes it potentially a significant secondary source for these metals. Proper management of WEEE is therefore prerequisite for the abatement of its potential environmental impact and the exploitation of its economic potential. In this respect, recycling of electronic wastes (e-wastes) has already become a legal obligation in European Union and developed countries (U.S and Japan). The Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry is also preparing a directive for the management of WEEE. &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The project “Recovery of Metals from Electronic Wastes Using Physical Separation and Hydrometallurgical Processes” (MAG 109M111) supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) is currently underway with the cooperation of Karadeniz Technical University (K.T.Ü) and Süleyman Demirel University (S.D.Ü). It is a 2.5-year project with a total budget of 208.000 TL. The project team is composed of Associate Professor Hacı Deveci, Professor Ata Akçıl, Associate Professor İbrahim Alp, Ersin Yazıcı and Rıdvan Yazıcı.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The project will examine the recovery of metals from printed circuit boards that contain a considerable part of metals embodied by e-wastes (&amp;gt;60%). The project aims to research and develop environmentally friendly, low-cost physical separation and hydrometallurgical methods for recovery of metals from e-wastes. Scientific and technological research on recycling of e-wastes is not at a desired level in Turkey and “technology transfer” or “research/development” activities are required. Recycling projects/activities in Turkey are essentially limited only to collection, dismantling and storage before selling the waste to recycling companies abroad in EU or Far East. We share the wish to contribute to a prospering co-existenzia of men and women, people of different age, abilities, social, religious, cultural, geographical origin; to create a basis for people – in case of REALIZE project especially for people with migrant background – to be able to sustain themselves through labor, to contribute to the wellbeing of our societies and to enjoy it. We regard it as human right that people should perceive themselves as valuable and should have the possibility to be proud of their relevance in the community.
